Tae's Fanfic final draft

THE PURPOSE OF THE MOVIE INCEPTION

[The movie ends in some theatre..]

[Clap clap clap…]

[Audience gossiping and commenting about the movie …]

“It was great!!!”
“Leonardo DiCaprio is hot!!!!”
“Come on kids. We’re having Mc Donald’s for dinner.”

[That night, a group of four students gathered to discuss the movie, ‘inception’..]

“I don’t get it. It’s a complicated movie” Michelle with curly red hair said, rubbing her eyes.

“I think it’s just an ordinary happy ending, with the most natural flow. And the spinning top seemed to be shaking right before the ending credit. It’s one of those silly tricks that movie directors make, hahaha” said fat Brian, gorging himself with salt & vinegar flavoured chips.

“But that’s what makes inception more interesting. You can think of different endings with the last scene.” Steven replied, adjusting his big round glasses, looking intelligent.

“Like what?” Michelle asked, full of curiosity.

“Think of it this way, Cobb was dreaming since he met Yosuf in the cellar. When Cobb saw people dreaming with the new drug that Yusuf designed, he decided to test it himself. The point is, after he woke up Cobb tried to activate his totem precipitously but he couldn’t because of Saito’s interruption! You guys remember that scene?” Steven paused to have a sip of coke.

Gulp..

[Everyone desperately waiting for Steven to continue..]

“So what I am trying to say is, after that scene, there was not a single scene that showed Cobb’s totem activate. That’s why I believe Cobb is having a sweet, sweet dream about his success in the basement.”

“Wow.” Everyone remarked at once.

“What if Mal was right? What if Mal was in the real world and Cobb was struggling in the limbo?” shy Rebecca quietly suggested, diffident as always.

“And any reasons for your opinion?” Steven asked.

“I… I just thought that… I…” Rebecca replied in a faltering voice. Her face was blushing because of shyness.

“Let me explain it instead.” Brain holding a slice of pepperoni pizza on his hand stepped in. But Rebecca felt relieved.

“There is no evidence that Cobb escaped with Saito from the limbo. The movie just showed Saito holding the gun, not himself nor Cobb. Besides, at the end when the top was still spinning, Cobb didn’t care about his totem. I think he was satisfied to meet his children whether it is in a limbo or the real world. He is a good father you see, Hahahaha.” Brain took a bite of his pizza.

“But that’s too sad. If he is still in the limbo, he will never get to meet his children in the real world.”
Michelle said, feeling sympathy towards Cobb.

“Don’t take it so seriously Michelle, it’s only a movie, Hahahahahaha” Brain laughed.

“All right, since Michelle likes happy endings, I’ll tell you guys a new theory I thought just now.” Steven said.

[Michelle’s eyes wide open. Expecting a fantastic happy ending story from Steven]

“The whole movie was just a dream of Cobb’s. Cobb was just a normal business man who was on the returning flight to meet his children. He fell asleep in the first class seat and dreamed about the whole inception thing. But the truth is, there is no inception, no dream machine, no stealing someone’s mind that exists in the real world. How’s that sound? Huh?” Steven folded his arms, proud of himself.

“Nihilistic!!!!” yelled everyone.

“I wonder what director Christopher’s intentions were…” Rebecca whispered quietly so that no one could listen…

[Meanwhile, in some five star hotel Christopher, the director of the movie ‘inception’ and Leonardo DiCaprio, the hero of his movie were having a conversation.]

[The main theme song of the movie ‘inception’, 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien' by Edith Piaf coming out from the audio speaker…]

Non Je Ne Regrette Rien Non, Rien De Rien…
Ni Le Bien Qu`on M`a Fait, Ni Le Mal…
Tout Ca M`est Bien Egal…
Non, Rien De Rien, Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien…

“Here’s a toast.” Dicaprio said, raising his glass of wine.

“To inception.” Christopher took a sip of wine and started listening to the song.

“The audience will be confused with the top spinning by the hair’s breadth in the ending scene. Think about it. No matter what conclusion the audience arrive at, they will still be suspicious about the incomplete ending. No logical reasoning or explanation will be perfect, and it will never be so. I’ve planted a ‘seed of creeping doubts’ in their head. A chaos will be created between the borderline of dream and reality just like Mal falling in to the limbo. Therefore, my intention of planting inception to the audience was successful...” Christopher said.

“Congratulations Mr Nolan, I think you accomplished your purpose.” Dicaprio smiled.
